The GIS solution for Ras-Al Khaimah is the vision of H.H Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al-Qassimi, The Crown Prince , The Deputy Ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah. In his words, the vision is set out as follows:

“… taking the benefit of an Enterprise-GIS to the people by the adoption of the integrated and seamless Spatial Technology and Information Technology solutions… that makes governance successful and meaningful for the people and citizen’s are assured of the most upto date services and map information ”

OBJECTIVES AND BENEFITS

RAK has envisaged that the use of high quality reliable, geo-spatial information is critical to virtually every sphere of economic and public activity – property management, land management, taxation, emergency management, environmental assessment, town planning, infrastructure (airport and sea-port, roads, telecom, civic infrastructure etc) development, engineering and public works, business Geographic’s and many other areas. There is a constant and increased “demand” for (spatial and non-spatial) information from the different stake-holders in RAK and the question is how to ensure its easy accessibility even through customized enterprise applications. RAK visualizes that It is in this context that the vision of the H. H. The Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of RAK become very relevant and unique in the present-day context.

The road to the Enterprise GIS solution is embedded in the e-Governance activities of RAK – and a strategic approach has been taken for its development. Starting with a comprehensive consultancy that established the broad framework, the next step has been a Pilot-GIS implementation. With the Pilot developed successfully, RAK is now embarking on a full-scale enterprise solution for the whole of RAK.

The program aims to improve, facilitate and speed up the services to the citizens and residents of Ras Al-Khaimah, to cater for the GIS needs of the Ras Al-Khaimah Government Departments, and coordinate between Ras Al-Khaimah Government and other parties, both in the public and private sectors.
